Do you hate being in front of the camera? Guess what? So do I!
I dread it so much that when I smile, I make this tiny, nervous humming sound without even realizing it.
But something shifted for me at a photography retreat this year. I was at a Photographers Retreat this year, and about an hour a day during this retreat we had a “Headshot Swap”. It was basically 50 photographers walking around taking photos and being photographed. It was intimidating at first - but turned into an amazing, fun afternoon. As I watched everyone around me going through the same experience, I realized a few powerful realizations:
No one knows you're nervous except you. So go ahead—fake the confidence! The best part - No one will even know you're faking it.
You are beautiful. Tell yourself that! No matter your shape, size, skin tone, hair color, or texture—you are uniquely you. You were fearfully and wonderfully made, created with love and a purpose. Remind yourself of that on the way to your session (and every day).
Stop comparing yourself to others. there is literally only ONE YOU in the history of mankind. You are unique and amazing! Don’t ever try to be someone else!
Let go of perfection. It’s unattainable, exhausting, and—let’s be honest—boring. You are amazing just the way you are!
I see YOU! I see how amazing you are. I see your beauty! And I cannot wait to capture it—so that you can see it too.
