Do you hate being in front of the camera? Guess what? So do I!

I dread it so much that when I smile, I make this tiny, nervous humming sound without even realizing it.

But something shifted for me at a photography retreat this year. I was at a Photographers Retreat this year, and about an hour a day during this retreat we had a “Headshot Swap”. It was basically 50 photographers walking around taking photos and being photographed. It was intimidating at first - but turned into an amazing, fun afternoon. As I watched everyone around me going through the same experience, I realized a few powerful realizations:

  • No one knows you're nervous except you. So go ahead—fake the confidence! The best part - No one will even know you're faking it.

  • You are beautiful. Tell yourself that! No matter your shape, size, skin tone, hair color, or texture—you are uniquely you. You were fearfully and wonderfully made, created with love and a purpose. Remind yourself of that on the way to your session (and every day).

  • Stop comparing yourself to others.  there is literally only ONE YOU in the history of mankind. You are unique and amazing! Don’t ever try to be someone else!

  • Let go of perfection. It’s unattainable, exhausting, and—let’s be honest—boring. You are amazing just the way you are!

I see YOU! I see how amazing you are. I see your beauty! And I cannot wait to capture it—so that you can see it too.
