Why You Should Include Grandparents in Your Photo Session | Extended Family Photoshoot Birmingham, Alabama Photographer

One Word - Legacy!

My Grandmother has long since gone to be with the Lord, but I see her every single day when I walk past the piano in our entance…. I remember the time we sat through a red light b/c we were talking, I remember the homemade bread and the alphalpha sprouts blooming in her kitchen. I smile and then remember that I will see her again one day.

Last year was when I really started focusing on these extended family photoshoots. I was contacted by two families who had a sick grandparent and wanted to capture the entire family when everyone was together during the holidays. From there the idea of booking these photoshoots with grandparents started to grow in my mind!

My entire business model is based on giving families memories that last for generations, so what could be better than including generations in my photoshoots?!?!

Each photoshoot with grandparents and extended families has several stages:

We start with photographing everyone together while we spend some time getting everyone relaxed and having fun. After that I move to the individual couples, households and groups.

We ALWAYS capture an updated couples picture of the grandparents! I cannot tell you how many times I have heard that “we haven’t done this since our wedding day”

We capture the “original household”, then the generations/branches of the family tree.

We get the grandparents with all of the grandkids.

And then my favorite part is when we just start mixing up everyone - Cousins, aunts, uncles. It’s aways a fun time!
